Lake Placid is not only quaint and charming but it also has additional significance for me as the setting for my upcoming novel called My Kind of Crazy, and for both of these reasons I was eager to revisit it in the wake of a long year of lockdowns. After a beautiful drive up the Adirondack Northway and heading west on scenic Route 73, I was all set to reacquaint myself with the Olympic Center, the friendly shops and restaurants on Main Street, The Crowne Plaza, and High Peaks Resort, all pivotal locations in my novel. But we all know what Robert Burns said about "the best-laid schemes of mice and men." Join me to see the transformations taking place in the town that gave us, among other things, what's come to be known as 1980's Miracle on Ice, and, to include yet another shameless plug, the next novel by award-winning author, Daniel Hayes!
