Hollywood - In the early morning hours of January 4, 2026, fire erupted in a boarded-up two-story Craftsman style house/business in the heart of Hollywood.
At 4:30 AM on January 4, 2026, the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported rubbish fire in the 6700 block of Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. Firefighters arrived to find a boarded-up 2-story house/business with heavy fire showing from the first and second floors. The engine captain immediately upgraded to a structure fire and requested additional resources.
The first arriving fire company established their hose lines, secured a water supply and began fire attack in an offensive posture. Upon hearing calls from help from inside the structure, the captain announced all members to continue fighting in offensive mode but in a rescue profile. A ladder was placed to the second story roof line, where firefighters assisted a 42-year-old male who had broken out a window and self-extricated, down to awaiting paramedics. Once safely on the ground, the patient was treated for a minor wound to the arm and transported to a local hospital in fair condition with no burn injuries.
Incident Commander, Battalion Chief Tim Ramirez, shifted tactics and ordered all members to begin defensive firefighting operations due to growing concern for firefighter safety in a rapidly deteriorating structure. 70 firefighters extinguished the stubborn blaze after a 1hr and 12-minute battle. Firefighters performed a secondary search of the property and found no additional patients. No injuries were reported to any fire department personnel.
The LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section (ACTS) is actively investigating the cause of the fire. LAFD heavy equipment operators are on-scene assisting with overhaul of the heavily damaged and uninhabitable building
