The testimony of Vice President Sara Duterte’s security officer Dante Lachica could introduce untested claims that may put the prosecution’s case at risk. That’s according to House prosecution panel spokesman Ace Barbers. Barbers said Lachica could introduce new assertions that the panel had not previously heard or had the opportunity to test. However, he stressed that Lachica’s testimony would not automatically overturn the evidence already presented. This is in connection with the prosecution’s case on the alleged irregular disbursement and use of confidential funds of the Office of the Vice President. Barbers said the prosecution is weighing whether to call Lachica as a possible hostile witness in the impeachment trial of Vice President Duterte.

After two straight weeks of increases, fuel prices are expected to drop next week. Local oil industry sources said diesel prices are expected to decrease by around three pesos and fifty centavos to four pesos per liter. Gasoline prices, meanwhile, are expected to go down by around twenty-five centavos to seventy-five centavos per liter. Sources say the price adjustments were due to the global market reaction to the recent developments in the Middle East.

Rescue teams and military helicopters are searching for hundreds of missing people along the mountainous Nepal-China border. The search and rescue operations are centered on areas where waves of water and mud several stories high swept through communities following a glacier collapse. More than one thousand and four hundred people were missing, including hundreds of foreigners and pilgrims. More than three hundred and ninety were killed, according to authorities in Nepal and China. The floodwaters washed out buildings and bridges. Thirty bridges have been destroyed. About forty kilometers of road have been damaged, making access to the flooded area difficult.

The DILG is seeking a 332.5-billion peso budget for 2027. Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla presented the department’s proposed 2027 budget before the House of Representatives. He said the funds would support programs for public safety, emergency response and stronger local government units. The PNP is getting the largest share at 242.5 billion pesos. The allocation is seven percent higher than the previous year’s budget. The funds will be used to strengthen the police force, intensify police operations and construct new facilities.
