"oh the thrill of the double life"
this is the biggest vent I've ever made. If you don't like vents, you can watch it as AU story, it works that way too. The vent begins after "Kovu represents me" sentence.
Not everything shown in this AU is true for a vent, I don't have anyone to represent Kiara or Rafiki in my life, like a wise mentor / teacher with original view of things (Rafiki) and a lover / soulmate who truly understands and accepts you the way you are, with whom you can share adventures and secrets (Kiara).
Actually I don't think I could ever get those figures in my life, I'm not sure I could make anyone truly happy, so focused on my own life and interests, so what can I give a potential Kiara? And who would want to guide me like Rafiki, who would be interested in it, really and why?
But I guess I really wish for these figures since I included them, well, at least Kovu here has them.
The story is not shown in chronological order, the scenes with almost no colors should represent the past
Kovu in this AU is Sarabi and Scar's son, after Scar died Sarabi rules the Pridelands. (Mufasa either was not born in the Pridelands or moved in a faraway pride and never visits).
Kovu wants to find more, more lands, more places, to explore but Sarabi doesn't think so.
She thinks the world outside the Pridelands is dangerous and it's better not to risk and go anywhere, especially for Kovu who is a gentle soul and can't protect himself.
Kovu tries to talk to her, but Sarabi doesn't want to listen, saying nothing is changing, Kovu is just being unthankful and he should be happy with what they have, never asking for more, even if there are not enough food in the Pridelands.
Sarabi believes finding a better life is never worth the risk, so she tells Kovu to drop this conversation and don't worry her with that.
Kovu is devastated and heartbroken, but then he thinks about his dreams Sarabi doesn't understand and he decides to try anyway, in secret from her.
He goes or journeys by himself and finds beautiful places, alongside with Kiara who supports him. Rafiki finds everything out and covers for Kovu, he wants to guide him.
Kovu is so happy about his dreams coming true, but he can never tell Sarabi the truth, tell her he did those dangerous things on his own.
The world is indeed not a safe place but he wants to act for a better life even if it can be so dangerous.
Still he can't be truly honest with her, Kovu acts like nothing happen in conversations with Sarabi, because he knows if he ever told her the truth, Sarabi would turn everything he did and achieved into a darkness and she would never forgive him.
Kovu remembers the past, his childhood, how Sarabi has always been – and she is – a good caring mother, overprotective, but loving, how great it was to spend time with her when he was a kid.
He feels bad about lying to her like this, but sharing can lead to a disaster. He is probably a bad son and they can't truly understand each other.
Kovu represents me, Sarabi represents my mother and that conversation is something that really happened. The conflict is a bit different than exploring.
There was no fight, I just added this scene at 0:12 to match the lyrics
I made this video a few months ago and never had enough courage to make it public. I'm not sure about it even now, I'm so nervous.
I've never been good about talking about myself, I was always thinking "I'm not ready, I'll make it public later", "probably it should never be public", "who would ever be interested in this?" "maybe this vent would just make things worse", "still not ready, why today?"
"Someday later, too personal, I can't deal with it", "I better upload something else", okay, later".
While I was choosing a day to finally make this vent public my mom died.
I'm writing these words now and I don't truly believe it, she's been sick for the last nine years.
But somehow I still believed things can be better, that I would change things for the better, but I didn't, on the day she died I was so tired and so dumb, I made mistakes and I believe things could've been better if I had acted differently, I need to go back in time and try to save her, but it turns out to be impossible and I can't believe it either.
It's the only option that can make things right and it's impossible, why? I just need one more chance, why can't I fix my mistakes?
I was late to upload this vent in time, in time when she was alive, now this feeling of a double life is a memory, it's gone and transformed into something else.
Maybe this is why I'm actually uploading it, I regret not uploading it earlier and I don't want to regret not uploading it at all. I love animash community, I love YouTube, it's one of the few places where I feel like I belong, where I feel accepted. So I wanted to share this here, even if it's maybe a mistake. I love being here.
