In today's episode we discuss how to modify the collar of a circular yoke style sweater without changing the body size of the sweater, with some tips on adjusting boat-neck collar sizes, too!

MATH DETAILS FOR CHANGING YOUR COLLAR SIZE
To determine the number of sts to increase and the rate of spacing, follow these steps:
1) Subtract your existing stitch count for the collar size you cast on (88 sts) from the target stitch count at the end of Yoke Inc #1 for the size of sweater you are making (size 2; 119 sts): 119 – 88 = 31. Now we know we need to increase just 31 sts for Yoke Inc #1.
2) Next you need to divide your target stitch increased (31) into your existing stitches (88) to figure out the rate of spacing: 88 / 31 = 2.84. We’ll need to round up and round down to find our upper and lower rates of spacing: 2.84 rounded up is 3 and rounded down is 2. So our intervals of shaping are 2 sts and 3 sts.
3) Next we need to figure out how many of each interval of shaping we need: 2X + 3Y = 88, where X + Y = 31. For this sample it works out to be that X = 5 and Y = 26.
4) Once you’ve figured out the rate of spacing of your increases, you can work this in place of Inc Rnd #1 and when you’re done, you’ll be at the target stitch count of 119 stitches for size 2 so you can carry on with the pattern as written with no other changes.
