The Arena is basically a boss rush with limited recovery items in between each battle (five max tomatoes). You are granted any ally and power you want at the beginning. Afterward you are at the mercy of whatever the game gives you for powers between battles. The boss battles are randomized except for the very last battle.
If this type of game looks familiar to you, it probably is. Super Smash Brothers Melee and Brawl have very identical, if not exactly the same, game modes in them.
