Kingdom by Yasuhisa Hara has finally been released in English. This is the first volume of Kingdom, it’s released in the Signature line by Viz Media. And I’m incredibly excited to start collecting this epic tale from Yasuhisa Hara.
Kingdom started in 2006 and has today 77 tankobon volumes in Japan. It looks like Viz will release one volume per month so we are many many years from catching up. I would have preferred Viz to release Kingdom in 2-in-1’s instead, similar to what they did with The Climber, but I’ll take whatever at this point just to read Kingdom for the first time.
Kingdom takes place in the warring states period, with the manga starting at 245BC in Qin, a kingdom in western China. In the manga we follow Xin, a war orphan who dreams of unifying china and becoming the greatest general under the heavens. I don’t know much else about the story since I started reading Kingdom for the first time with this volume. The manga captured me instantly after just one chapter and I already know I will be an avid reader and collector of this manga.
As I said earlier Kingdom is released in the Signature line meaning it’s slightly bigger than standard Viz volumes. There’s not too much to add about the edition itself other than that there are no colored panels or illustrations inside, the paper has a good thickness with very little bleed through and there’s not much gutter loss. The binding is also glued in a perfect binding. You also don’t get any extras in the volume and the book is printed and bound in the US.
