Here we have ”The Narrow Road to the Deep North and Other Travel Sketches” by Edo period poet Matsuo Bashō, translated by Nobuyuki Yuasa and published by Penguin Classics.
This edition includes a good introduction, notes and maps, as well as small illustrations throughout the text. It is bound in paper with a detail of Misuyoshi Tosa’s Bamboos Under Snow, in a glued binding and the paper used for the book is non-acid free paper. The text-size is a bit bigger than medium and the book is printed and bound in the UK.
Basho is a must-read for anyone interested in Edo period literature and poetry, or anyone who wants to read the greatest master of haiku. I really enjoyed this book and can definitely recommend pairing it with a cup of tea outside in nature.
