”The Indus civilization flourished for half a millennium from about 2600 to 1900 BCE, when it mysteriously declined and vanished from view.
It remained invisible for almost four thousand years, until its ruins were discovered in the 1920s by British and Indian archaeologists. Today, after almost a century of excavation, it is regarded as the beginning of Indian civilization and possibly the origin of Hindu religion”
Here we have ’The Indus’ by Andrew Robinson, first published in 2015 by Reaktion Books. This book is a sober introduction to the Indus civilisation showcasing how little we actually know about this once great civilisation while still managing to be interesting (with the help of illustrations and some speculation). One can only hope that the Indus script will be deciphered in our life time so that we might understand at least a fraction of the Indus people and their culture, religion and society.
The book is bound in paper in a glued binding. The binding is sadly very tight and I found it a bit hard to read this book in a comfortable way due to that. The book is printed on semi-glossy photographic paper that is coated.
The paper is very thick and print and illustration quality is great. There are 78 illustrations in total in this edition. It is printed and bound in the UK.
