Anyways, even though I said I would be done for Year 4 with the piano videos, I actually have one more vid to pull out for y'all!
So I'm part of the Rochester Institute of Technology Gamer Symphony Orchestra (or RIT GSO), and near the end of the semester we had our big spring concert. It's divided into two groups, the Small Ensembles and the Orchestra. You know, I never knew that Fire Emblem music was this good.
First of all, I’ve been meaning to make a Fire Emblem cover for a while now, but I never knew what song to do since I know absolutely zero about Fire Emblem (besides that it sucks to play against Marth in Melee when you’re a Samus main ._.) and the only FE songs that I know are from Brawl (the main theme and whatever that mariachi battle music is :P). However, when the new game came out last Friday and one of my friends at youth group asked me to do something on piano from that game, I decided MY TIME IS NOW!
I went through some of the OST and listened to the music of the cutscenes, and man is it some of the most beautiful stuff I’ve ever heard (even if it does rip a bit from Breath of the Wild, Sword Art Online, Super Mario Galaxy). After a bit of poking around, I found some very convenient sheet music from the insanely talented hinaflower (man, those sheets were on point and the mediafire directory was REALLY organized XD), I decided to do the theme of the goddess of love and beauty, which I hope I captured the essence of this piano cover. I hope you enjoy this piano arrangement of Goddess Milas Theme from the Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia OST!

I never seem to get enough of the Final Fantasy Piano Collections, and the album for Final Fantasy XIV is full of stand-out tracks. From the relaxing Serenity which I covered last year (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJ_0Q8uJF6g) to the intense piano duet of Ink Long Dry, theres just so many different moods and colors present in it. Crimson Sunset is especially beautiful since its originally a duet for shakuhachi and piano. Along with re-orchestrating the source track to have a much more dynamic/scale-drive piano background in the first part (which I like to call arm-day for pianists, playing in C# major is mega yikes), the second part beefs up the intensity into almost a battle track. I definitely think the original arrangement by Keiko captures the bold crimson color of the port town of Kugane beautifully.
However, I ran into one small problem when I wanted to play this track: no official sheet music exists for any of Final Fantasy XIV Piano Collections! Transcribing by ear from just audio is something Im not a stranger to, but it was definitely an interesting challenge to distinguish some of the intricacies of the lush piano harmonies and fast-paced scales from just the reverb-washed recording (tho tbh I too subject my piano mixes to way too much reverb). A cool thing I learned during the process though is that the new piano VST Im using (the Garritan CFX) is sampled off of the same model Yamaha CFX that was used to record the piano collections, so in a way Im playing the same piano as in the recording (at least, as long as I can mix it to sound similar enough haha)!
Another challenge with getting this piece together was finding someone to fill the shakuhachi part. While I couldnt find any shakuhachi players, GameroftheWinds was able to beautifully emulate the inflections of the shakuhachi just through the flute part. He even added in his own little counter-melody at the end which I thought meshed really well with the vibe of the piece! Super happy to have had him onboard.
After months after transcribing and practicing, Im super happy to finally share this with yall. Even if Final Fantasy piano covers dont always perform as well on the channel, Im still happy that the people who do listen to these covers enjoy them as much as they do. Cant wait to hear the new FFXIV Piano Collections tracks added in the Scions and Sinners official arrangement album as well! Catch you guys again next week.

Earlier this year, the fighting game man himself @Maximilian_Dood hosted a tournament sponsored by Twitch Rivals called KI Lives in order to show how passionate and hype of a community still rallies behind the amazing fighting game Killer Instinct. It was a great event and I absolutely loved watching it and getting my mind blown by the over-the-top action of the game.
Afterwards, in a tournament reflection video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ex3S0hTA7kk) there was a song playing in the background that sounding like an emotional Jimi Hendrix solo over the Killer Instinct main theme, and I loved it so much I had to figure out where its from. Turns out its the last track composer Mick Gordon wrote for the Killer Instinct Season 2 soundtrack, hidden as a bonus track after the end of the last official OST as a farewell to working on the game score.
Since this piece is so beautiful and I wanted to pay my respects to the KI community after the amazing Twitch Rivals tourney, I decided to make my attempt to cover it in DS piano fashion. Hope you all enjoy it!

Hellooooo Internet, and welcome to Game Theory!!!
As another tribute cover to one of my favorite Youtubers of all time, NCC and I are back together to perform the famous jingle for Game Theory! We also improvised a little skit beforehand that we hope youll also enjoy (see how many easter eggs and copies of Super Smash Bros. Melee you can find in it).
MatPats channel has been a great source of humor and good times for me ever since I started high school (back in freshman year when I first found his channel and started binge-watching his most famous vids, such as the Aileron Roll theory that IMO spawned the biggest anti-meme in history XD), and throughout my school years MatPat has always been dedicated to spending ridiculous amounts of time to outlandish theories just for the sake of engaging and uniting the gamer community. Thus, this piano cover was made to thank him and the Game Theory team for all the joy and fun theyve brought into our lives.

I just cant understand why the Final Fantasy XIII series of games keep being so bad when their OSTs are so gorgeous 💜 I found this track in particular after hearing Glenntais arrangement of it on the Materia Collective album called Menu (which I did a track for a while ago), so here we are. Guess Ill have to find a Final Fantasy XIII-3 track to cover now too.

So this cover is one that I made for the VGM cover group Pixel Mixers for their newest indie games tribute album, The Great Tale of the Little Ones Vol. 2. This album features a whole ton of great covers in tons of different genres from all your favorite indie games, to which I contributed they mysterious and airy Waterfall theme from Undertale.
It took a while to arrange this one, as I wanted to try my best to both capture the original vibes of the tune while also adding some plinky, sparkly, waterfall-esque piano ornaments and harmonies. In the end it kinda feels like I just merged 3 or 4 songs into one since I had so many ideas going on, but Im happy how it turned out :P

Since we did something super meme-y and upbeat last week, its time for a darker and more somber thing to balance out the mood for a spooky October!
Im sorry to say Ive never played any Nier games, but I love Platinum Games to death so I had to give Automata some love! That coupled with the fact that Ive heard so much good about this games visuals, story, plot, and especially the music and I knew I had to make a cover from this OST sometime.
Luckily theres a lovely piano collection for Nier: Automata, and once again the godlike transcriber themrzakid had a transcription available for the famous opera boss battle music A Beautiful Song from this piano collection. I know the color of this arrangement is a bit different from the action-packed boss battle, but personally I kinda like how this arrangement is more somber and mellow to tell the sad story of the robots.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy my cover of the Piano Collections version of A Beautiful Song from Nier: Automata. Next week I got another famous somber VGM piano piece, and theres plenty of spooky covers coming up soon for Halloween time!
