This video features the secret boss fight against Sephiroth (the main antagonist and final boss of Final Fantasy VII) from Kingdom Hearts. Once the player has sealed the keyhole of Hollow Bastion, a new match will be unlocked at Olympus Coliseum, the Platinum Match, which features a duel between Sora (alone) and Sephiroth. This boss fight is therefore entirely optional and winning it isn't required to beat the game proper.

Note that this video was recorded while playing Kingdom Hearts on its Final Mix, 1.5 ReMIX version from the 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX compilation for the Playstation 4 and on Standard or Normal difficulty. I was also on my Playstation 4 Pro.

Among all the secret bosses in the original Kingdom Hearts, Sephiroth remains arguably the most challenging. It doesn't help that, unless the player did a serious level grinding beforehand, the game unlocks the fight at a point where defeating him with your current stats and equipment borders on impossible.

In order to have a chance against Sephiroth, you must be in the 85-100 level range (I faced him around level 90) and have specific abilities equipped: Once More and Last Chance are pretty much mandatory, for instance, and Leaf Bracers can help a great deal. It also doesn't hurt to have a big MPs pool and bring in all the elixirs you can carry in order to be able to heal yourself even in the direst of circumstances.

The fight involves various phases, with Sephiroth becoming more and more aggressive as he loses HPs.

In the first phase his most dangerous attack involves quickly creating three huge fire pillars around himself, which inflict a lot of damage. It will summon said pillars after performing three or four hits or as a counter to your combos.

In the second phase Sephiroth will move and teleport around the arena much faster, given you fewer chances to attack. He will also start to use two special attacks:

1) Heartless Angel, which involves Sephiroth teleporting out of your reach and start casting a spell. If the spell is cast, you'll see a halo above Sora and shortly after you'll HPs will be reduced to 1 and your MPs to 0. The attack must therefore be stopped at all costs by closing your distance with Sephiroth quickly (use Glide or Superglide) and attack him, which will interrupt the casting. If the attack does it you, you can use an elixir to try to survive.

2) Omnislash, which is a very long melee combo which can however be parried easily at several points.

In the third and final phase Sephiroth will summon the power of Darkness. He can now summon a lot of dark spheres all around you with each attack and will now favor just teleport-spamming on you with a vortex attack of his sword. He also gains a new desperation attack where he'll summon several, rotating meteors around the arena that can damage you on contact: he will then destroy them and launch a huge sphere of energy towards you.

In the Final Mix version of Kingdom Hearts defeating Sephiroth awards you an Ansem report and the One-winged Angel keychan, which has less attack power than the alternatives you may have unlocked up till now, but cand eal devastating critical blows
