Joseph Szimhart | Kierkegaard and the comic Hegel @josephszimhart9431 | Uploaded February 2021 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
Soren Kierkegaard said that Hegel’s total view of human history as a religious philosophy would have been the best ever formed if viewed as a thought experiment but taken seriously, Hegel’s system is merely “comic.”
Most harmful cults propose theories of everything not as brilliantly as Hegel did but nevertheless all encompassing for believers who incline to impose their beliefs on others through government and force if necessary.
Both conservative and liberal pundits hijack Kierkegaard to back their versions of individual freedom and the ultimate leap of faith it takes to be an authentic believer and Christian. Yet, Kierkegaard’s put down in Hegel is a put down on every totalist thought or belief system conceived by cult leaders.
I turn to Professor Lawrence Kahoone for his summary of Hegel and Kierkegaard.
