#2 in my series discusses how I went down the Theosophy rabbit hole in 1975 to find the I AM Activity sect founded by Guy and Edna Ballard. Reading Manly P. Hall's esoteric history "Secret Teachings of all Ages" gave me the impressive intellectual force (pseudo-intellectual as it turned out) to believe that Comte de St. Germain (18th Century occultist) was the real deal "Master" revered by many Freemasons, Theosophists, and modern occultists to this day. Hall argued confidently that St. Germain was Francis Bacon who authored the Shakespeare plays [proven false]. I discuss my involvement with Summit Lighthouse (aka Church Universal and Triumphant) as an offshoot of the I AM cult. I discuss and recommend Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco (1988) that features St Germain as a main character. I borrowed "Occulture" from Christopher Partridge, a scholar who has written and lectured extensively on the topic and calls occulture "normal" throughout human history--in other words, most people are believers and actors in a phase of occulture even if they only read a daily horoscope in the paper, believe in the deep state behind government, or pray that God or an angel help an ailing mother. I mention books that expose the historic St Germain as a charlatan including Myth of the Magus by E M Butler (!948) and Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds by Charles Mackay (1852, 2nd ed.)
