For decades, award-winning American fashion designer Kevan Hall has dressed red carpet icons such as Michelle Obama, Charlize Theron, and Viola Davis. In 2025, however, he sought inspiration not in Hollywood, but in the quiet studios of Japanese master artisans.

In collaboration with Japan Airlines, Hall embarked on a journey to Tokyo, Kagawa, and Tokushima, where he experienced centuries-old traditions firsthand, including suminagashi marbling, kintsugi repair, and indigo dyeing—learning from families who have preserved these crafts across generations. Each garment in his Fall/Winter 2025 collection reflects the textures, colors, and stories he encountered along the way.

In this special conversation, fashion editor and author Booth Moore—whose work has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The Hollywood Reporter, Women’s Wear Daily, and Vogue Business—joins Hall along with Yuko Kaifu, President of JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles, to explore the intersection of heritage craft and contemporary fashion.
