KAYAKING TO MEDINA FALLS // 40ft waterfall pouring into Glenwood Lake
Glenwood Lake has a steep sided, rocky shoreline with fluctuating water levels which limit aquatic vegetation to shallow areas near the dam and creek inlets. Glenwood Lake is a hydroelectric reservoir created around 1925 by damming Oak Orchard Creek.
Medina Falls is 40 feet high, and has a curving crest that is 150 feet wide. The falls faces to the west, and has developed in a purpleish-red colored sandstone known as Medina Sandstone. The falls is found on Oak Orchard Creek, which originates in the Oak Orchard Swamp, in the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge.
Orleans County maintains a concrete boat launch with parking for 10 cars/trailers on NYS Route 63.
