The One Handed Bowline Knot is used when one of your arms is incapacitated or you are holding onto object you can not let go of. For example a tree limb stopping you from falling further down a ravine. It is also a good idea to practice the one handed bowline knot with both your right and left hands AND with your eyes closed.
