Kakenya’s Dream to empower and educate girls in Kenya began under a tree with one 4th grade class. It has since grown to two fulltime boarding schools for Maasai girls, but to change a cultural that traditionally valued girls only as a commodity for the cows they could be exchanged for in marriage and a culture that practiced female genital mutilation, Kakenya Ntaiya knew she needed to reach more than just the girls in her schools. She is now running health and leadership training sessions that reach thousands of girls and boys in schools across Kenya.
