Bird Echoes (2020)
"Bird echoes" is a poetic and personal conversation and narration between two literary quotes: a verse from the work of the English writer William Shakespeare "Romeo and Juliet" and a verse from the song "Gracias a la vida" by the Chilean singer-songwriter Violeta Parra.
These phrases, which resonated in my sonic and poetic creation, from different periods of time, geographies, thoughts and contexts appeal to sound through words in a deeply sensitive way and to the declaration of love. "Bird echoes" is an imaginary melting pot, a journey that surrounds oneself, through different environments in which women's breaths and voices coexist reciting the verses, as well as the sounds of rain, music and water, choirs of humans, birds singing and crowds moving in the city. These sounds are a metaphor for the echo and repetition in Juliet's call to Romeo and the variety of sounds which Parra appeals in her love of life.
And it is through this poetic narrative and coexistence of diverse environments that I propose a travel through the different textures, voices, arpeggios, friction, closeness and distance, rough and smooth surfaces, resonances, flickers, interferences and silences that are generated in the piece.
All the materials used in this piece were recorded by the author in recent years in various parts of the world, mainly in Colombia. The recorded voices belong to Andrea López Orejuela, Juliana Cuéllar and Julia Nanda Bejarano López. --Julia Nanda Bejarano
