A Leap Year Birthday to Remember
What started as a simple shopping trip on February 10 turned into anything but an ordinary day for Joye Morey. Joye suddenly collapsed and went into cardiac arrest — but heroes were already stepping up.
Quick-thinking bystanders immediately called 911 and grabbed a nearby AED while crews from Station 15 were enroute. A life-saving shock was delivered just before paramedics Kyle Sanchez, Sarah Bishop, and Paramedic-in-training Johan Falconer arrived and took over CPR and advanced care.
Because of those fast actions and teamwork, Joye had something incredible to celebrate just weeks later — her 90th birthday!
Members of South Metro Fire Rescue were honored to visit Joye on February 28 to celebrate alongside her and her extended family. Seeing survivors like Joye reminds us why early CPR and AED use truly matter.
