A filker wakens fully in his hired cubicle
He rubs his eyes and boggles at the time
Another night of song, it's a chance to sing along
And to mangle rhythm, scansion, and rhyme
And till 4 a.m. or noon, makes no difference what's the tune,
Just so long as it's A minor, no high notes, and 4/4 time

The veteran filkers claim a fan can go insane
Seven Dorsai ballads and seven more to go
And midnight songs of ose can soon drive you comatose

Then a hundred pairs of eyes light up as someone cries,

Eighteen verses long, is there no end to this song?
We wonder, can a lyricist be burned?
Then a hundred fen and more join together on the chorus,
And with nausea your stomach starts to churn
