On February 20, 1962, John Glenn launched his way into American record books, again, by becoming the first US astronaut to orbit the earth. At 6 a.m. EST John Glenn made his way to the 11th deck of the launch pad in Cape Canaveral, FL. Part of NASA's Mercury-Atlas 6 mission, Glenn boarded the Friendship 7 shuttle and prepared for blast off , as the rest of America witnessed the start of a new era in space travel.
