Held in late 1972, John won the second of his five national titles here, defeating Glyn Jones and a very young Robin Cousins who at just 15, was making his senior national debut. John was pretty consistent in this 1972-73 season and the work he was doing with Alison Smith was paying dividends. He emulated this performance at Europeans (with just the double three out of the loop) before skating a clean long in Bratislava at the 1973 Worlds.
