Rocking the bottle green, the brilliant and ultra consistent Jay Humphrey of Canada delivers yet another outstanding free skate at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble. Clean and crisp fom start to finish, this programme just does not stop and was clearly appreciated by the crowd. The judges weren't necessarily in agreement and woefully undermarked him, earning the wrath of the French audience. The booing and whistling went on and on, forcing Gary Visconti who was next to skate, to delay the start of his performance in what would be a forerunner to what happened to Dorothy Hamill at the 1974 Worlds in Munich six years later.
Note also legendary coaches Jutta Muller and Stanislav Zhuk doing their homework rinkside and obviously having just filmed Jay's performance. They knew great skating when they saw it. And I can even detect a hint of disapproval in Frau Muller's face when the marks come up! after giving Jay a pat on the back. Takes a lot to impress Frau Muller!
