Jingle Bells played on the violin! If you like this video, please subscribe for more violin videos! =)
I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season. It has been unseasonably warm in Colorado this year. I’m waiting for a big blizzard to blow through to make up for all the warm weather we have been having.. Somedays I haven’t even needed a coat! That’s crazy for Colorado in December! I hope the snow holds off for your travels and that you stay warm and safe during all the celebrations.
...And if you live in the Southern Hemisphere, I hope your Holiday time isn’t too hot.
I really like Jingle Bells. It’s such a “politically correct” song for the Holidays. It’s very non-denominational, so hopefully everyone will be able to enjoy it. Internet folklore says it was originally written as a Thanksgiving song! (As good ol’ Thomas Jefferson once said, “That published on the Internet is believed by many.” ha!) Next time your out and about caroling, try throwing in the rest of the versus that hardly anyone sings these days. The song is actually about speeding sleigh rides, courting ladies, and even sleigh accidents:
------------------------
Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
O'er the hills we go
Laughing all the way.
Bells on bobtail ring
Making spirits bright
Oh what fun to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight.
chorus:
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon Miss Fannie Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
He got into a drifted bank
And we - we got upsot
-chorus-
A day or two ago
The story I must tell
I went out on the snow
And on my back I fell
A gent was riding by
In a one-horse open sleigh
He laughed as there I sprawling lie
But quickly drove away
-chorus-
Now the ground is white
Go it while you're young
Take the girls tonight
And sing this sleighing song
Just get a bobtailed bay
Two forty is his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! You'll take the lead.
-chorus-
------------------------
The extra versus give the song such a different feel... Maybe that’s why most just stick to the first verse and chorus. I hope you enjoyed this!
