I was riding my bike around a park in town and I noticed a miniature Statue of Liberty! I had to play the tune Liberty in front of it! :D Liberty is a very popular old-time and bluegrass fiddle tune played in the United States and Canada. It's a great tune for contra dances, and it's tons of fun to play!
This is one of my favorite old-time fiddle tunes! It's really pretty to play slowly on the mandolin, too! There's something about it that sounds really fun and happy, yet still patriotic. I've heard all sorts of rumors about this tune from it being George Washington's favorite song, to Benjamin Franklin wanting it to be the National Anthem for the USA. I have no idea whether either of those things are true, or perhaps they were actually referring to a different "Liberty" tune, but I do believe this tune is really old! =)
I never knew how hard it was to match up two tracks of fast-paced harmonizing notes until I tried to align the parts for this tune.. If the alignment was even a tiny millisecond off, the whole thing sounded like gobbledegook by the second half! Hopefully it worked out! ^_^
