Jesus was not a Christian.
That isn’t a criticism of Christianity. Every religion has served a purpose and has helped countless people grow in faith, compassion, and devotion.
But it’s worth recognizing that Jesus didn’t come to start a new religion. He lived as a Jewish teacher whose message continually pointed beyond religious identity and toward direct union with God. He challenged empty ritual, exposed hypocrisy, and taught that the Kingdom of God is within and among us.
The religion that eventually formed in His name developed over generations after His life. Whether you’re Christian or not, it’s valuable to distinguish between Jesus’ original teachings and the institutions that followed.
Perhaps the invitation of Christ isn’t simply to belong to a religion, but to embody the love, forgiveness, humility, and living presence that He revealed.
