Mindfulness Technique: Absorption
One of my favorite mindfulness practices is something I call Absorption.
Before you begin any task, slow your body down with Pranayama. Take at least three slow, controlled breaths—in through the nose and out through the mouth. This simple practice signals to your nervous system that you’re safe, helping shift you out of fight-or-flight and into a state of presence.
Now the practice begins.
Completely absorb yourself in the physical details of whatever you’re doing. Become deeply sensual with the experience. Approach each task as though you’re discovering the body of a lover for the very first time—with curiosity, tenderness, and wonder.
Notice the scent. Feel every texture. Listen to every sound. Observe the subtle movements, the temperature, the weight, the rhythm. Let your awareness be completely immersed in the richness of the present moment.
The more you practice absorption, the more natural it becomes. Eventually, you’ll discover something beautiful: the simplest tasks become filled with delight. Washing dishes, folding laundry, making coffee, walking outside—ordinary moments transform into extraordinary experiences.
Heaven isn’t waiting somewhere in the future.
It’s hidden in the depth of this moment, waiting to be fully absorbed.
