Jefferson, aka Geoff Turton (formerly of the Rockin' Berries), enjoyed a brief string of hits in the late '60s in England and America. Jefferson's work moved between several sounds, mostly pop/rock (often with a soulful veneer) somewhere midway between Mark Lindsay and Tom Jones, and also moments that will evoke Engelbert Humperdinck. He's got a powerful voice, with an almost operatic delivery on certain songs. His rendition of Jimmy Webb's "Montage" is a highlight, reminiscent of "If You Should Leave My Life" from A Tramp Shining by Richard Harris; his big U.K. hit, "The Colour of My Love," is a hauntingly beautiful ballad that is almost but not quite too over the top to be taken as a rock song.
