Jeff Arcuri joins Mike Pesca to talk about his new Netflix special Nice to Meet You and the craft behind the crowd work that made him one of comedy’s most recognizable rising stars. Jeff explains why great crowd work is less like random improv and more like a magic trick: part listening, part preparation, part exit strategy, and part making the audience feel like they are in on the joke instead of being targeted by it.
The conversation also gets personal. Jeff talks about meeting his wife, Katie Thurston, how her stage-four breast cancer diagnosis accelerated their life together, and the challenge of finding a joke about something painful without turning it into a lecture or a pity bid. He explains why the first laugh after her diagnosis mattered so much, what he has learned about shutting up and listening, and why comedy still has room for silliness, sincerity, and a really stupid pun.
