In Jeet Thayil’s poems, a restless self is on the move. It is called «Jeet», just like the author, it is driven by an overwhelming personal loss, and only intoxication helps against this pain. On a drunken, nocturnal odyssey, «Jeet» races toward an uncertain future. «Stop signs are the enemy», standstill is not an option. In uncompromising lyrical overdrive, melancholy pairs with a longing for boundlessness. Jeet Thayil brings this sound to the stage with the ILB House Band, improvising and reading.
Afterward follows a conversation with ILB Head of Program Simone Schröder about his diverse work as author, publisher, and musician. The audience will also have the opportunity to ask questions to the 26th ILB’s Curator in Residence.
