Day 1 of Rocky Mountain Race Week 2026 is HERE — the 454 Big Block Chevelle
is finally taking the dirt motor down the track for the first time, nitrous
bottle is filled, and Paige is strapped in and ready to go. It's Great Bend,
Kansas, and the drag & drive adventure officially begins!

Day 1 at Rocky Mountain Race Week 2026 is always a shakedown — and that's
exactly what it was. The 1964 Chevelle is running a 454 Big Block with a full
nitrous plate kit setup, and Paige is behind the wheel making her first-ever
passes with the dirt motor. The plan: leave naturally aspirated, hit the
nitrous switch in third gear, and see what she runs.
Pass 1 was pure shakedown — nerves got the best of the foot pedal and the
nitrous switch found third gear a little late. Still, the car ran and came
back in one piece.
Pass 2 told a completely different story: 13.06 at 106 mph on the Great Bend
drag strip. We audible'd into the 13.0 bracket class right then and there —
the most competitive ticket Paige has ever turned in.
Meanwhile, the ongoing bet with the Rusty Nuts Media Jeep continues. They
ran a 13.17 at 105 mph on their second pass — tied at one win each heading
into Day 2. We've still got the faster ET and a faster mile per hour, but it's
going to be a long week.
Bad news of the day: Brad Fab's Camaro is loaded on the trailer and headed
home after a suspected transmission failure — no second gear, and with the
high-dollar parts in that setup, the adult call was made. That's drag racing.
Track delays from wrecks and coolant on the surface pushed our Day 1 well
past midnight — we finally wrapped up around 2 AM, loaded the Chevelle back
on street tires, swapped to the bad weather air cleaner for the 227-mile
drive to Kearney, Nebraska, and called it a night in the tent.
Nitrous tuning, bracket class strategy, a first start with the dirt motor,
