In early 1973, the pride of Scotland Jean Scott won the silver medal at the European Championships in Cologne behind Christine Errath of East Germany. Coached by Margaret Vernal, to this day Jean remains the last British ladies skater to medal at a major ISU international championship. She also medalled at the prestigious Richmond Trophy, was twice British National Champion and was bronze medallist at the innaugural Skate Canada in 1973; her final competitive appearance before retiring from amateur competition.
Through collecting and searching for figure skating footage, it has been my absolute pleasure to get to know Jean over the years. She has been incredibly helpful in tracking down skaters for me and encouraging me to share my collection with the skaters who made all this history in the first place. That has been one of the most rewarding aspects of this journey for me. Jean has also been saintly in her patience while answering my endless questions about the legendary era that she competed in. It is my absolute pleasure to be able to share this footage of Jean from the 1972 Europeans here. Her beautifully lyrical, highly musical skating deserves to be seen and appreciated once more.
