Its your quintessential medieval fantasy. You have the strong, brave, handsome knight who will go out to fight the demon king and save the damsel in distress. He is hailed a hero by the entire kingdom...What more could a guy want?
But we know that the triumphant hero has gone into self-exile...but why?
This cover story is loosely based on Hasshe and Uranus backstory in Live-a-Lives Medieval Chapter. [oh oops, if you didnt know theres a medieval chapter, thats a spoiler. BUT this is not what the medieval chapter is about, so its not really spoiling].
Some interesting things I learned that are relevant for this cover story:
1. Between the original SNES game and the Switch HD-2D remaster, the final boss before the Lord of Dark is renamed. In the SNES, it is Gynephobia (fear of women definitely relevant for my cover story...so I ran with that!). But in the remaster, it is Hygrophobia (fear of liquids).
2. In this story, the demon says that Hasshes sin is anathema even to demon kind. I didnt make up that idea! Believe it or not, but in medieval demonology, sodomy was seen as too wicked even for demons. This changed only in the 16th century, when men started to be accused of witchcraft in Renaissance Italy, and they needed to also loop those guys in with demons just for the effect.
3. Finally, uhh, Im not the only one shipping Hasshe and Uranus, am I??? this is a totally logical ship, right????

But eventually, the townsfolks become stricken with an affliction that you are powerless to do anything about. Totally different context. And some stranger shows up from nowhere with no experience saving the day. You are forgotten while he is the hero.

Imagine living in a country whose foundation was forged from a pact wth the devil, and no one can say anything about it, because this founding has become mythologized not merely in the dominant theological religion of the empire, but a cornerstone of its civic mythology, so speaking against it is not only heresy, but sedition.
…but the historians are eye witnesses who have actually seen the priests turn into devils! It’s not even just a metaphor or anything!!!
Imagine being a historian who has written a history about the truth, and it is buried as anathema (with the historian of course, who was discredited and burned at the stake for his audacity) and it’s only discovered centuries later by his descendant, who is also anathematized for it, and nothing actually changes.
That would be crazy, wouldnt it?

10 years ago, the up-and-coming Professor Larkspur instilled hope in the residents of the Tandor region that they would benefit from a safe and ethical way to generate nuclear energy with the assistance of Pokemon. The robust reactor design at Nuclear Plant Epsilon was never in dispute, so the meltdown disaster was a particular blow to the pride of the people of Tandor and to Larkspurs reputation.
In fact, to this day, some suggest that the conventional narrative doesnt add up the meltdown couldnt have happened the way the traditional narratives say it did
...Further, while the discovery of irradiated Pokemon has been considered by most to be a purely natural reaction to low level radiation exposure, some suspect that these Pokemon represent unethical testing (perhaps by Professor Larkspur himself) to create radiation cats that would serve as a strong cultural ward against the investigation of nuclear waste disposal sites for thousands of years.
Perhaps when Larkspurs plans were rejected by the Tandor Nuclear Regulatory Agency, Larkspur engineered a way to commence the experiment anyway...regardless, we now must live with the phenomenon of nuclear pokemon.
