Japan is gearing up for a snap election this month. Official campaigning will kick off tomorrow for the 465 seats in the Lower House of the Diet. The ruling Liberal Democratic Party will run on a platform to rejuvenate Japan at a time of crisis, but a slush fund scandal could cast a shadow on its campaign. At a debate among political party leaders at the National Press Club in Tokyo on Saturday, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba painted a picture of a Japan facing serious domestic and international challenges.
