In Japan, campaigning is in full swing, ahead of a snap election next week. More than 1,300 candidates and nine officially recognised political parties are contesting 465 seats in the Diet's Lower House. The ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is fielding 342 candidates. But it is not endorsing nine other LDP members linked to a slush fund scandal, which means they will run as independent candidates. CNA's Michiyo Ishida has more.
