King Rose Archives | Jaguar's Thrilling Racing Legacy: From Le Mans Triumphs to Electric Dreams @KingRoseArchives | Uploaded September 2023 | Updated October 2024, 7 hours ago.
Jaguar got started in racing competitions in the early 1950s, and their history in motorsports has informed the evolution of their road cars ever since. With their Formula E, they move forward into electric vehicles. The company's first race car was the Jaguar C-Type, which was powered by a 3.4-liter inline-6 engine that produced 205 horsepower. The C-Type was very successful in racing, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1951 and 1953; 1954 brought the introduction of the Jaguar D-Type and continued Jaguar’s dominance. The D-Type was even more successful than the C-Type, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1955, 1956, and 1957. Jaguar's success helped establish the company as a leading manufacturer of sports cars. The company's race cars were also very popular with the public, and helped to boost sales of Jaguar's road cars.
Jaguar continued to race in the 1960s and 1970s, but didn’t reach the heights it had achieved in the 1950s. The company returned to racing in the 1980s with the introduction of the Jaguar XJR-5 and XJR-9, and returned to success. These cars won the World Sportscar Championship in 1985, 1987, 1988, and 1991. Jaguar hasn’t raced in Formula One since 2004, but the company competes in other forms of racing, such as the World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Jaguar's racing history is long and impressive. The company has won many of the most prestigious races in the world, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans five times. Jaguar's race cars are considered some of the most beautiful and advanced cars ever built.
