Some specs completely surprised me.
Arcane Mage looks incredible thanks to its new gameplay interactions, Shadow Priest might have the most exciting changes of any ranged spec heading into Season 2, and Marksmanship Hunter finally feels like it's getting mechanics that actually make the rotation more engaging. Even Frost Mage gets one of the most satisfying tier sets Blizzard has designed in quite some time.
On the other hand, not every ranged spec came out a winner. Some 12.1 Tier Sets feel far too passive, others barely change the gameplay at all, and a few specializations still feel like Blizzard missed a huge opportunity to make them more exciting despite all the PTR updates.
At the end of the day, this isn't about who's topping the damage meters. It's about which classes you'll still be excited to queue Mythic+, raid or push keys with after hundreds of hours of gameplay.
๐ฎ WoW 12.1 is shaping up to be one of the most interesting patches we've had for ranged players in a long time, and if Blizzard continues refining these Hero Talents and Tier Sets before launch, Midnight Season 2 could end up having one of the strongest ranged DPS lineups we've seen in years.
