This is a cheerful song, "It's A Pretty World Today." It actually rained before recording this and I was trying to toss a plastic tarp I bought over my guitar. You can't just throw a pedal steel into a 1993 Toyota. I covered the guitar body and sat in the car until the rain cloud passed. Then it didn't rain anymore. You never know when a downpour may happen, and you've got about 20 seconds warning (unless you watch the sky). Usually the wind picks up a couple minutes before a downpour, so I have to be ready. Most people would never take a pedal steel to a beach, but I bought it to use it. I think more pedal steel players should get a single neck just to take to the beach, or to play in public.
I'm playing through a VOX DA-5 battery-powered amp (using 6 C-sized batteries). It has a 5 or 6 inch speaker, I can't remember. It's 10 watts (8 ohms). I'm using a SONY boombox with bass-boost for my rhyhm tracks. My camcorder is a JVC HD with an external mic. I'm using my BOSS DD-3 with the VOX and a Goodrich volume pedal with the new improved high-life pot. The guitar is a ShoBud Pro I with a stock factory open-coil pickup.
My setup is extremely simple. I'm not raising strings 1 nor 2. I miss raising string one a whole tone. This guitar won't do it. I can raise it a half, which change I'll add soon. I substitute this missing change (i.e., raising string one a whole tone) by using the C pedal and strings 1 and 4, moving up 2 frets. It gives me a similar sound, although not quite the same. I'm lowering string 2 a whole tone, raising string 7 a half, and then lowering and raising my E's. That's it for knee levers.
