I used this radio to connect to the @dl4ka Winlink Gateway (1600 clicks away), using an OCF dipole antenna from @n9sab, to send a Winlink message to @K4KHOMetroATL with 10 watts on 40 meters with a mobile phone as a computer.
The distance from Oulu, Finland (my QTH) to Berlin, Germany (DL4KA gateway) is ~1,547 km. From Berlin to Atlanta, GA (K4KHO) is ~7,595 km.
Winlink enables radio email over HF, critical for emergencies as it bypasses failed internet/phone systems for coordination and welfare messages.
Using 10W (QRP) shows efficient low-power ops, ideal for battery/solar setups in the field.
