Hello Operators,
In this video we’re putting the Chameleon MPAS 2.0 (Modular Portable Antenna System) through a full field test during a POTA (Parks on the Air) and WWFF (World Wide Flora & Fauna) activation on Hailuoto Island (KP24iX), Finland. This broadband vertical HF antenna system covers 160–6 meters and is built for rapid deployment, rugged portability, and multi-configuration operation.
For this activation:
• OH8STN operated with the Lab599 TX-500MP QRP transceiver (10 watts)
• OH8HUB operated with the Icom IC-705
• Modes tested: SSB Phone and FT8 digital
• A RigExpert Stick Pro antenna analyzer was carried for real-time antenna testing
The antenna was deployed as a vertical with ground-level counterpoise wires. While not as efficient as a resonant dipole, the MPAS 2.0 proved fast to set up, rugged in adverse conditions, and effective across multiple bands. Using PSK Reporter during FT8 testing, the antenna and QRP rig were both hearing and being heard across Europe, Japan, Australia, Greenland, and North America — even at just 10 watts.
