Historical fashion is FULL of a multitude of accessories and ways to spice up any ensemble. As individuals living in the 21st century, it is convenient to turn to historical accessories for inspiration, in particular for those who love to dress in historically-inspired or history bounding attire.

In this video, we explore what is probably my all-time favourite archaic accessory – the handmuff, or hand warmer. Both names describe the same thing.

We journey back in time to learn about its roots and origins, along with the reasons why I believe it just might be the ultimate historical fashion add-on. I discuss how the handmuff has an uncanny ability to make even the most contemporary outfit feel at least somewhat archaic or vintage. Additionally, although society sometimes thinks that this accessory is impractical, I express my reasons for why I actually consider it to be supremely practical.

Handmuffs came into fruition in the late 16th century and prevailed all through up until the 1950s, and potentially even later. Although they have now gone out of fashion, I am secretly hoping for a comeback. After watching this video, are you ready to join The Muffia? (Every pun ever intended).

What is your all-time favourite historical fashion accessory and why? Be sure to let me know in the comments down below as I am incredibly curious to know.

Thank you so much for watching.
