Planning a Washington, D.C. vacation and wondering whether it’s worth staying near the National Mall? In this Holiday Inn Washington Capitol - National Mall review, I share our real experience staying close to the Smithsonian museums, National Mall attractions, and L’Enfant Plaza Metro station.
We stayed two nights at the Holiday Inn Washington Capitol - National Mall during a short family trip to Washington, D.C. In this video, I show the hotel room, beds, desk area, outlets, bathroom, amenities, window view, lobby areas, and the hotel exterior so you can get a better idea of what this D.C. hotel is really like.
I’ll also break down the real cost of staying near the National Mall. We paid $475.75 for two nights, but parking was an additional $65 per day, bringing our total to about $605.75 for the weekend. Was the convenience worth the price?
This hotel had several things going for it: a very convenient location, comfortable beds, a rooftop pool, a nice fitness center, a Starbucks right next door, and more affordable food options like McDonald’s, Subway, and My Own Pizza about two blocks away. The hotel restaurant was convenient, but expensive, and the food was just okay.
If you are trying to decide where to stay in Washington, D.C., this review may help you compare staying near the National Mall versus staying farther out and taking the Metro into the city. We’ll talk about room cost, parking, Metro access, nearby restaurants, walkability, and whether this hotel worked well as a base for sightseeing.
For our short Washington, D.C. trip, the Holiday Inn Washington Capitol - National Mall was not the cheapest option, especially with parking, but the location made the trip easier.
