Is Celebrity Cruises worth the hype? In this honest first-time Celebrity cruise review, I’m sharing what it was really like to sail on Celebrity Summit for a 17-day Panama Canal cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles. This was our first Celebrity cruise after sailing other cruise lines, and we wanted to know: is Celebrity really a step up, or is it overrated?
In this video, I review the Celebrity Summit ship experience, including embarkation, crowd levels, food, buffet variety, main dining room service, drinks, entertainment, sea day activities, internet, cabin service, and overall atmosphere. We sailed a long itinerary with stops in Grand Cayman, Cartagena Colombia, Colón Panama, the Panama Canal, Puntarenas Costa Rica, Puerto Quetzal Guatemala, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán, and finally Los Angeles.
I’ll share what Celebrity did well, including fast embarkation, friendly staff, nightly turndown service, strong main dining room service, good buffet variety, Beyond the Podium speakers, and the calmer onboard atmosphere. I’ll also talk about the things that disappointed us, including cold showers late in the cruise, limited cabin TV variety, no real library or game room, inconsistent food items, disappointing fruit, premium internet upload speeds, and a few other practical drawbacks.
We also compare Celebrity Cruises to NCL, Carnival, and Windstar based on our personal cruise experiences. Celebrity felt like a step up from NCL in several ways, but Windstar still has the edge for us—though that is not exactly a fair comparison because Windstar is a smaller, more expensive cruise experience.
