Let’s start with raid performance—as a pure Ground-type, Shadow Groudon is a top-tier raid attacker. With Mud Shot + Precipice Blades, it boasts some of the highest DPS in the entire Ground category, beating out standard Groudon, Garchomp, and even Landorus-T. If you raid frequently against Electric, Fire, Poison, Rock, or Steel-type bosses, Shadow Groudon can absolutely anchor your raid team.
Next, we talk PvP. In Master League, Shadow Groudon is an absolute threat. The shadow boost pushes its fast and charged attacks to terrifying levels, letting it outpace many common meta picks. That said, the lack of bulk due to the shadow debuff does make it a high-risk, high-reward play. Compared to regular Groudon, it trades durability for raw damage and can pressure shields like crazy.
But what about alternate movesets like Solar Beam and Fire Blast?
• With Solar Beam, Shadow Groudon technically becomes one of the highest DPS Grass-type attackers in raids. While it’s not as consistent as Roserade, Kartana, or Mega Sceptile, its sheer power and surprise factor make it a solid off-type counter, especially in limited rosters.
• With Fire Blast, Shadow Groudon can step in as a budget Fire-type raid attacker—though it’s outclassed by actual Fire-types like Mega Blaziken or Reshiram. Still, in niche scenarios, it can do work.
