In this video, we take a critical look at Mega Malamar and Mega Victreebel and ask the big question: are these Megas actually good, or are they another example of a sub-par GO Tour release?
Historically, GO Tour events have delivered powerful, meta-relevant Mega Pokémon that immediately impacted raids, PvP relevance, and resource farming. Megas like Mega Rayquaza, Mega Garchomp, Mega Tyranitar, and Mega Diancie felt exciting, game-changing, and worth grinding energy for. By comparison, Mega Malamar and Mega Victreebel feel underwhelming — not because they’re new, but because their practical value doesn’t line up with the expectations set by previous GO Tour experiences.
In this breakdown, we examine Mega Malamar’s typing, moveset potential, and realistic use cases in raids and PvP. While its Dark and Psychic typing is unique, it doesn’t clearly outperform existing Mega options that already dominate those roles. When Mega slots are limited, efficiency matters — and Mega Malamar struggles to justify replacing stronger, more established Megas.
We also analyze Mega Victreebel, which arrives with Grass and Poison typing but faces intense competition from Mega Venusaur, Mega Sceptile, and other top-tier Grass Megas. Despite being brand new, Mega Victreebel lacks the raw power, utility, or unique niche needed to stand out. In many cases, it feels like a downgrade rather than an upgrade, making it difficult to justify heavy investment during a premium GO Tour event.
