Every September, there’s this feeling in the air that we should be ready.
New goals.
New plans.
New routines.
A new version of ourselves.
And honestly, I love that feeling.
I love a fresh notebook. A new plan. That little feeling that anything is possible.
This year, though, September makes me stop for a moment.
The last few months have been a lot.
A lot of work. A lot of ideas. A lot of things I wanted to do, things I had to do, things I kept saying yes to.
For a while, I thought I needed to get better at managing everything.
Better organisation.
Better routines.
More discipline.
Then I realised something much simpler.
I had been running on empty for a while.
And I think this is something we forget when we talk about new beginnings.
We arrive in September carrying the months behind us.
The unfinished projects.
The things that didn't work out.
The expectations we had for ourselves.
The person we thought we'd become by now.
And then September arrives, and we open a new page.
“Okay. What’s next?”
I’ve been thinking a lot about that question.
What actually deserves my time now?
What do I want more of?
What has run its course?
What do I want my everyday life to feel like?
For me, this September is about making space.
More space to learn.
More space to create.
More space to be curious.
More space to do things simply because I enjoy them.
And that’s actually how I want to approach this new year of teaching too.
My classes are starting again, and I want to create a space where learning Greek feels like something you get to do, not another thing on your list that you have to keep up with.
A place to show up, speak, make mistakes, laugh, meet people and slowly get better.
Because learning a language takes time.
Life does too.
So here’s to a new September.
To new beginnings, yes.
And to choosing carefully what we want those beginnings to look like.
