Our students always say that. And we're thinking : Is there any native speaker of any language who doesn't speak "fast" or better ... normal?

Can you imagine how fast sound to us chinese, japanese, spanish or urdu?

Same with greek. The only thing you can do to understand better is to practice your listening skills.

You can use plenty of material: slow, normal, fast.
