A 60-day deadline tied to U.S. efforts to negotiate with Iran has arrived without a broader agreement to end the war or fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz, raising new questions about how long Washington should continue pursuing diplomacy while attacks and disruptions persist in the critical shipping corridor.
The deadline comes two months after Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at beginning peace talks and restoring traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. The Trump administration has also reportedly pursued a back channel with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as part of efforts to break the diplomatic stalemate.
Speaking with The National News Desk, Washington insider Armstrong Williams said negotiations should continue but argued Iran must face consequences if it fails to honor its commitments.
