In this video, Dylan from Alarm Grid discusses the length of the included power cable for the Qolsys IQ Panel 4. The included cable is 10 feet long and comes with a barrel connector on one end and spade lug connectors on the other end. This makes it easy to connect. The barrel connector goes to a port on the back of the panel. The Spade lugs go under the screws on the DC power supply, then the screws are tightened.
00:00 - Introduction
00:30 - Included Wire
01:40 - DC Power Adapter
02:18 - Power Down
03:07 - Barrel Connector
04:09 - Custom Wire
04:46 - Connecting to Power Adapter
05:23 - Connecting to Back Plate
06:33 - Correctly Routing Wire
07:08 - Powering Up
07:35 - Outro
Since this is a DC power supply, observing the proper polarity is important. Be sure to connect the red connector to the screw terminal marked positive (+) and the black connector to the screw terminal marked negative (-). The markings are stamped onto the plastic on either side of the DC power adapter.
For users who need a power cable longer than 10 feet, Dylan demonstrates how to connect a custom length of wire to the DC power adapter and the panel. Using an 18 gauge 2-conductor wire, you can run up to 98.5 feet between the panel and the outlet. If the wire runs any further, you risk having power issues on the panel, usually in the form of low battery reports.
The wire connectors for the panel side are located inside the back mounting plate. There is a raised terminal block with push-down tabs to open the wiring access hole for both positive (+) and negative (-). Press down the tab, insert the appropriate wire into the hole, then release the tab. Give the wire a gentle tug to make sure that it is secure. Do this for both positive and negative wires. When the panel is mounted to the back mounting plate, the connection for power will be made.
