In this video, Dylan from Alarm Grid shows you how to switch from Dual-Band WIFI to either 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz on the Qolsys IQ Panel 4. This can be helpful if your router supports band steering. When a security system is used with band steering, it can sometimes have issues with WIFI disconnecting for no apparent reason. If you find your system losing the WIFI connection intermittently, try changing this setting.

When it comes to alarm panels that communicate via Alarm.com, cellular communication is required, while WIFI communication is optional. Still, when WIFI can be used, it is recommended. An IQ Panel 4 system that has access to both WIFI and cellular paths will send all alarm signals using both paths simultaneously. The signal received by Alarm.com first, is processed and the "losing" signal is discarded. In this way, Alarm.com makes sure the fastest communication path is used for each individual signal.

The fact that you can disable the dual-band feature in the IQ Panel 4 means that you can continue to use band steering in the router settings. While this feature may cause issues with alarm panels, it can be helpful with such items as tablets, phones, and other portable WIFI-capable devices.
